A brand-new trend-setting retail operation recently opened on St. Thomas. Welcome to Calypso Trading Co.

This enticing 2,200 sq. ft. enterprise with the lilting name and upbeat ambiance is located in Buccaneer Mall directly across from Port of Sale in Havensight.

Family-owned and operated by well-known island resident Vinnie Mohanani and his wife, Lily, the spacious shop is the place where “Style meets Service.”

Looking into the St. Thomas retail history books, as a child Vinnie relocated with his family to the Virgin Islands. In the 1960s, his father established Majesty of the East in downtown Charlotte Amalie.

A BIT ABOUT MANGOES

The mango tree is indigenous to southern Asia. A member of the cashew family, the mango is one of the most widely cultivated fruits in the tropics, including the U.S.V.I. Rich in vitamins A, C, and D, its form varies from oval, round, or heart-shaped, to long and slender. Mangoes weigh from a few ounces to five pounds. Some varieties are vivid red and yellow; others are dull green. The juicy flesh is yellow-orange in color and has a luscious, sweet flavor. It surrounds a single large flat seed.
