Virgin

Islands

According to poets and songwriters, sunshine and happiness go hand-in-hand — so it’s well worth noting TripSavvy tracks August as the sunniest month of the year in the U.S. Virgin Islands. What a happy time to enjoy life in the tropics!

Technically the warmest month, average daily temperatures throughout August remain in the mid-80s. Trade winds blow a bit lighter but all-in-all, weather is sunny, breezy, and comfortable. Also, the driest time of year, unless a tropical front comes through, you can count on August rain events to be little more than short sun-showers.

FUN FACT: locals refer to the northern side of St. Thomas as “The Cool Northside” and Flamboyan is the only hotel/ resort complex located on the north side of the island.

The resort’s half-mile proximity to world-famous Magens Beach and off-season rates are even more great reasons why Flamboyan is an ideal summertime destination. How cool!

As always, the friendly staff will “go the extra mile” to familiarize guests with not-to-be-missed island attractions.

A favorite spot is Tillett Gardens. Situated in the heart of St. Thomas at Anne’s Retreat — just 15 minutes from Flamboyan — Tillett Gardens is an intriguing place to experience casual shopping and dining in a colorful artists’ community.

Once a Danish cattle farm, today the property’s converted sheds serve as brightly painted semi-open buildings set among lush plants and trees. You can read more about Tillett’s in this issue of Coconut Post.

During your island explorations, it’s great fun to seek out rustic bars serving tropical concoctions. But when you’re ready for an upscale change of pace, check out Brix Wine Bar & Bistro in Havensight at Port of Sale Mall.

As the name implies, wine aficionados appreciate the vino selection at Brix — complemented by creative menu options. In addition to featuring Veuve Clicquot champagne, the eatery offers a convivial bar serving your favorite cocktails from classics to trend-setters.

Looking for a congenial daytime gathering spot? At Yacht Haven Grande you’ll find Lilika Juice Bar. This one-of-a-kind “find” serves breakfast, lunch, smoothies, and cocktails in a relaxed setting. Enjoy the air-conditioned lounge or opt to sit outside at an umbrella-topped table. What an ideal place to ‘drink in’ the sun-drenched scenery!

Whether you are on island for a day, week, month, or a lifetime, count on St. Thomas in August to offer plenty of “sunshine and happiness.”

When the Sun Goes Down, Coqui Come Out

When the Sun Goes Down, Coqui Come Out

In the early evening, if you take a stroll around the lush grounds at Flamboyan Resort, you’ll hear the distinctly enchanting sounds of the coqui.
Pronounced ko-KEE, its name reflects the sing-song sounds made by the tiny male tree frog when serenading a prospective soulmate.
