Looking back to the very beginning of the pandemic, proprietors Trish and Tom Dahl stepped up to the plate, making freshly made menu items readily available to island residents and visitors.
Within 24-hours of the initial challenge to provide and protect, Northside Grind had fully transitioned to “take-out only” — skillfully setting up customized curbside delivery for everything from a single morning coffee to multiple sandwich and salad orders.

A BIT ABOUT ST THOMAS CARNIVAL ROOTS
In 1911, St. Thomas resident Adolph “Ding” Sixto traveled to Brazil to attend Rio de Janeiro’s renowned Carnival celebrations. Inspired by the experience, he brought the concept back home and on February 14, 1912, the first St. Thomas Carnival was held from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. It included confetti battles, greased pig-catching competitions, boat races and a torchlight masquerade. St. Thomas Carnival was held again in 1914 but with the advent of World War I, festivities came to a halt until being officially established in 1952 as an annual event.
