Whether you’re in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands as a visitor, a local — or always in spirit — Coconut Post keeps you posted on fun-filled news ’n views. Published monthly by Flamboyan On The Bay Resort & Villas, we’re focused on sharing our people, places, and fun things happening in paradise.

October, 2021

Autumn in the islands offers the best of both worlds. Seasonal taste treats are yours to enjoy at many establishments while tropical temperatures remain in the low to mid-80s. In other words, there’s no chance of having to deal with “frost on the pumpkin” — but you still get to taste the flavors of fall.

At Flamboyan Resort’s Northside Grind coffee shop, cold brew has become wildly popular with island residents and visitors. Proprietors Tom and Trish Dahl recently created a very special seasonal cold brew with oat milk, maple syrup, and pumpkin sweet cream — topped with cold foam and cinnamon (below left). Delicious!

No matter what the time of year, frosty cold beer is always a favorite refreshment in the Caribbean and Northside Grind is right on cue with premium quality non-alcoholic beer from Athletic Brewing Company.

According to materials provided by the company, “Athletic Brewing is pioneering a craft beer revolution. We promise to use high-quality, all-natural ingredients to create great-tasting brews for our beer-loving family. We strive to create brews suitable for everyone and every occasion. No matter your motivation, if you want to keep a clear head and drink healthier, we’re here for you.”

At Northside Grind, Athletic Brewing selections include “Upside Dawn” Golden Ale and “Free Wave” Hazy IPA.

As always, Northside Grind is headquarters for breakfast and lunch specialties, smoothies and smoothie bowls, snacks, fresh baked goods, and more.

A BIT ABOUT CRUZAN RUM

Beginning in 1760 with the establishment of Estate Diamond where the rum is made today,  the island of St. Croix became home to the legendary rum. In 1950, Cedric “Ceddie” Nelthropp joined Cruzan Rum. With deep roots on St. Croix, the Nelthropp family became synonymous with Cruzan Rum. In 2007, Gary Nelthropp took over as Master Distiller. Said Nelthropp, “Cruzan is not just about making rum, it’s also about tradition and family.”
