A BIT ABOUT GENIPS

Genip trees are native to the U.S. Virgin Islands and throughout a large part of the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America. Found growing along many roadsides and in forested areas, leafy genip trees can grow up to 85 feet tall. The fruit grows in bunches and typically ripens during the late summer months. Genips are a small fruit with thin, rigid green skin.  When ripe the flesh is sweet with a slight tart taste.

Aside from the incomparable beauty of the Caribbean and all it has to offer, travelers to St. Thomas get an added bonus — the chance to save a substantial amount of money on tobacco products including cigars and cigarettes as well as vapes.

The extra good news is — rather than making purchases for the trip home while enjoying the island — now you can wait ’til the very last minute to make your purchases. How convenient!
